FEES AND PAYMENTS

See below for my rates, sliding scale policy, insurance information, and resources for lower-fee therapy options.

Two Dried Leaves

INSURANCE:

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the states of New York, Massachusetts, and Alabama. This means I am fully credentialed as an Out-of-Network (OON) provider for most insurance plans.  I have chosen not to take insurance directly for a number of reasons:

  1. The insurance industry has gained so much power and influence that its primary interest is to make money and not to provide the best quality patient care.

  2. To rationalize the denial of or limitation of care, they have become intrusive into the privacy of the therapy process, often requiring detailed notes on clients to be sent to them.

  3. They do not always adequately safeguard client confidentiality.

Using your OON benefits can be a better option for you as a consumer, both financially and in terms of protecting your confidentiality. You may need to contact your insurance company and ask specifically about your Out-of-Network benefits for therapy with an LCSW, then I will be happy to help devise a plan so that you can maximize your potential benefits while still seeking the quality care of a seasoned clinician with over 10 years of experience.

RATES:

Individual therapy sessions are offered in 45-minute, 60-minute, or 90-minute formats, depending on what best supports your needs. The session rate varies according to length. Couples therapy sessions are typically 60 to 80 minutes, with fees adjusted based on session duration.

Sliding-scale spots are available for those experiencing financial hardship (loss of job, lack of housing, loss of spouse/family/etc).  Please inquire about these rates if you fall under this category.

My fees are consistent with the average therapy rates in New York City and reflect my training, experience, and the level of care I provide. At the start of each new year, I make a modest $10 increase to my rate to account for inflation and the changing financial landscape.

ATTENDANCE AND CANCELLATION POLICY

Over time, in the field of psychotherapy, research has concluded that most theories could be effective; the important factor is the relationship between clients and therapists. With weekly appointments, we still only (typically) have 45-60 minutes to build an effective therapeutic relationship; thus, consistent attendance is essential for good outcomes. This may seem obvious, but in the press of daily life, with all the demands on people’s time, the importance of weekly attendance may get lost. My cancellation policy is designed to strike a balance between the importance of consistent and regular sessions and the reality that sometimes unavoidable things come up.

  • You must cancel or reschedule your sessions 48 hours in advance, or I have to charge you for the missed session.

  • Whenever I am able, I will attempt to reschedule appointments.

  • If you have been provided a routine appointment time, you are entitled to two missed appointments every three months without being charged a cancellation fee, provided you give 48 hours’ notice.

  • If you cannot attend routine weekly appointments, then you can call at the beginning of each week to see what session times are available.
